It's quick and easy to join the Library online. You'll be given a temporary membership number which you can use straightaway to reserve books on the catalogue and borrow eBooks, audiobooks, digital newspapers, and digital magazines.
To complete your registration you need to visit the Library within 60 days to collect your permanent membership card.
If you're under 16 you'll need a parent or guardian to complete the application as your Guarantor.
If you're resident in the Bailiwick of Guernsey just come along to the main Library in Market Street, or one of our Community Libraries, and fill out an application form (staff will be happy to help you with this). If you're under 16 you will need a parent or guardian to sign your application.
You'll be given a membership card, which you must have with you if you wish to borrow books and other items. You don't need your card to use our computers or free WiFi, or to use space in the Library to read, study, and so on.
If you're not resident in Guernsey (staying less than a year) you will need a 'visitor card' for which you wil be asked to pay a deposit of £15. This will be paid back to you at the end of your stay on return of the Library items you have borrowed.
What services can I use when I join?
Members can:
Borrow up to 12 items at any one time, including books, audiobooks, jigsaws, printed music, and DVDs, for a period of 3 weeks.
Search, order, renew and manage your account online.
If you can't easily get to the main Library you can use one of our Community Libraries.
In addition to items which can be borrowed we also hold a number of reference books and a range of newspapers and magazines that can be read in the Library.
